With young people writing from all Commonwealth countries and territories, the Competition enjoys much esteem and support throughout the Commonwealth. Each student's book may be on any subject and in any genre—fiction, non-fiction, biography, autobiography, mystery, humor, science fiction, etc... CBC Books has compiled a list of some of the writing contests open to young Canadians.

Proceeds of the sale of the e-book will go to a charity of the writer's choosing. To encourage thoughtful and respectful conversations, first and last names will appear with each submission to CBC/Radio-Canada's online communities (except in children and youth-oriented communities). (Their website states that they've received entries from "as far away as the United Arab Emirates.") The GPS is a group of civic-minded sci-fi fans from Minneapolis.

It's a non-profit organization that does a lot of science-oriented volunteer work in schools and libraries by day and seems to have a pretty heavily packed social calendar of, well, geeky activities by night.

They will be guests at the evening Celebration of Writing Reception. Every year, the Commonwealth Essay Competition inspires thousands of young writers from all over the world.

Organised by the Royal Commonwealth Society, the Competition has been running for over 100 years and is firmly established as a highly regarded and popular international education project.
