Drug addiction is a major social evil of modern times.It has spread its tentacles among the young and the old, and the rich and the poor.Migration of rural youth to the cities in search of livelihood, breaking up of the joint-family system, pressures of modern living, its tensions and tribulations and uncaring parents, tend to increase the tendency to take to drugs.

Every village has a panchayat to settle the disputes among villages and also for preparing development plans.

Most villagers are also for preparing development plans.

The press and the electronic media have been carrying on propaganda against the use of drugs. Some countries like our neighbours which encourage drug-trafficking are responsible for its production, should be prevented from doing so.

International opinion can force them to put an end to the production of drugs in their countries.

Since I had heard a lot about villages, I wanted to visit one. One day our teacher decided That he would take us to a village, situated at a distance of 15 kilometres from Delhi. We stood on the edge of a field and saw the expanse of land before us, land laden with the fruit of human labour. They are built in clusters with a common entrance at the front.Majority of villagers are poor and lead a hard life.But they are simple, honest and are very happy as they have no worries and not many wants.There are many reasons for the worldwide spread of drug addiction.Easy availability of drugs like brown sugar, hashish, and he-roin etc., have made many a young man and woman fall prey to them.
